Job Summary:
The Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers. This role ensures that referrals are processed efficiently, authorizations are obtained as required, and patients receive timely access to necessary care. The Referral Coordinator works closely with physicians, healthcare staff, insurance providers, and patients to facilitate seamless communication and coordination of services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and coordinate patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers.
  • Obtain necessary prior authorizations and verify insurance coverage as required.
  • Communicate with patients regarding referral status, appointment scheduling, and necessary documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of referrals, authorizations, and patient interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and staff to ensure the timely completion of referrals.
  • Follow up with specialists and healthcare providers to confirm receipt of referral.
  • Address and resolve any issues related to referrals.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements regarding patient information and referral processes.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Perform other duties as directed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in medical referrals, medical office administration, or healthcare coordination preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance policies, prior authorizations, and referral procedures.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and patient privacy regulations.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily a remote role within a healthcare or health plan setting.
  • May require prolonged sitting, use of computers, and occasional interactions with patients in person or over the phone.
  • Some travel may be necessary for coordination with healthcare providers or training.

Pay: $22.92 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
