Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill a unique dual role as a Lead Laboratory Technician and Process Coordinator. The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their time performing essential, hands-on technical work, specifically high-quality cable, harness, and soldering assembly. Concurrently, they will act as the key stakeholder responsible for developing, documenting, and implementing the operational and maintenance processes necessary to run an efficient, safe, and organized laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

I. Technical Execution (Lead Lab Technician)

Cable & Harness Assembly :

  • Manufacture, modify, and repair complex electrical cable and wire harnesses according to schematics, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Perform precise crimping, stripping, and insertion of contacts using hand and automated tools.
  • Test continuity and quality of assembled cables and harnesses using multimeters and dedicated test equipment.

Soldering & Rework:

  • Perform high-reliability soldering, desoldering, and rework on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for through-hole and surface-mount components (SMT), adhering to IPC standards (e.g., IPC-J-STD-001).
  • Assemble and integrate components into enclosures, racks, and systems.

Prototyping & Support:

  • Assist engineers with the rapid prototyping, assembly, and testing of new designs.
  • Maintain detailed records of technical work performed, materials used, and modifications made.

II. Process Development & Lab Management (Process Coordinator)

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

  • Develop, write, and maintain comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all key lab functions, including equipment usage, calibration, maintenance, and safety protocols.
  • Train new and existing lab users on established SOPs and technical standards.

Equipment Management:

  • Manage a centralized tracking system (inventory, asset tagging) for all lab equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Coordinate and track calibration schedules for precision instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, test fixtures).
  • Execute or coordinate preventative maintenance and necessary repairs for technical equipment.

Safety & Organization:

  • Ensure the lab environment is clean, organized, and compliant with all relevant EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) regulations.
  • Manage hazardous waste streams (e.g., solder dross, chemical solvents) and ensure proper disposal according to established guidelines.
  • Oversee the organization and stocking of common electronic components, connectors, and tooling.

Procurement & Budget:

  • Assist with identifying necessary tools, equipment, and consumables; generate purchase requisitions and manage inventory levels to prevent delays.

Required Qualifications

Associate's degree or Technical Certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field.

5+ years of hands-on experience in electronics assembly, prototyping, or a similar lab environment.

Proven expertise in high-reliability soldering (SMT and through-hole); current or previous IPC-J-STD-001 certification is highly desirable.

Demonstrated experience with cable and harness fabrication, including various crimping and termination techniques.

Strong familiarity with common electronic test equipment (e.g., DMMs, oscilloscopes, function generators).

Demonstrated experience in developing, documenting, and implementing processes or SOPs within a technical or manufacturing environment.

Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a Lead Technician, Supervisory, or Lab Management role.

Experience with ERP/inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

Familiarity with cleanroom protocols or ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) sensitive environments.

Experience with ISO9001 standards and certification process.
