JOB DESCRIPTION:

Billing Specialist
Heritage Hospice, a division of Holiday Healthcare, is seeking an experienced and motivated Billing Specialist to join our team

POSITION SUMMARY:

Compiles service data, prepares invoices for claim statements, maintains accurate claim statement records and processes claims in a timely manner as established by Agency protocol. Maintains accurate statistical data records involving client services provided claims and accounts receivable. Responsible for timely response to payor information requests and Medicare Credit Balance Report submission.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job. The minimum requirements include:

• Successfully completing drug screen, TB, and physical
• Sitting at least 95% of your shift
• Must be able to speak and hear in a manner understood by most persons.
• Must have medical billing experience.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare, review, and submit hospice claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance.
• Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Monitor aging reports and follow up on unpaid or denied claims.
• Research, correct, and resubmit claim errors or denials.
• Maintain accurate billing records and documentation.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and insurance providers regarding billing matters.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure billing accuracy and compliance.
• Stay up to date on hospice billing regulations and payer requirements.

Professional Qualifications:

• Experience in hospice, home health, or medical billing strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid hospice billing guidelines.
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and billing software.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and handle sensitive information confidentially.

Continuing Education Requirements:

Hospice personnel are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor. In addition, Hospice personnel are expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job related skills and ability. All personnel must attend mandatory educational programs.
