Overview:
The Shift Lead plays a critical part of our daily leadership support. Shift Leads support cafe by ensuring employees are customer focused, productive, and following all policies and procedures throughout their assigned shift. Shift Leads will assume cafe responsibility anytime they are on the floor and will serve as a leader-on-duty, often collaborating with other internal leaders to ensure smooth operations. Shift Leads are expected to be aware of the needs, policies, and procedures of the cafe and are expected to delegate tasks to the team throughout the shift. Shift Leads are responsible for sharing feedback with management regarding shift outcomes and cafe needs.
Responsibilities
- Strives for the highest standards in beverage and food quality, customer interactions, and overall store operations.
- Remains knowledgeable and educates staff and customers on current product offerings including beans, drinks, food, and merchandise.
- Follow manager directives and support team members to anticipate needs, ensure smooth café operations, and uphold our product and service standards.
- Helps with ordering as assigned by the Store Manager, including coffee, milk, pastries, inventory, etc.
- Monitors daily cafe schedule and shares feedback to improve results.
- Maintains safe, cash drawers, cashier turn-ins and deposits per documented cash handling procedures.
- Adheres to and ensures accountability around company policies, including but not limited to, cash handling, product standards, safety standards, cleanliness standards, facility maintenance and hospitality best practices.
- Provides feedback (both reinforcing and constructive) to the team in a respectful manner. Demonstrates good leadership skills and is empathetic and supportive when engaging the team.
- Communicates all staff difficulties, triumphs, and feedback to the Store Manager. Maintains shift flow by delegating tasks, (cleaning, stocking, prepping), and ensuring the staff is focused on customer service and sales.
- Uphold and follow all health, food safety, and safety guidelines
- Sets the tone for the team by practicing and upholding a positive and solution-oriented attitude.
- Conducts monthly inventory as assigned.
- Respond to all customer and staff inquiries with patience, confidence, and professionalism.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Full time employee hours per week) with holiday and weekend availability.
- Must be able to maintain a positive demeanor under stress with both staff and patrons.
- Exercises good time management and approaches all tasks with a sense of urgency.
- Has a logical and methodological approach to problem solving.
- Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Is resourceful in challenging situations and shows excellent customer service at all times.
- Demonstrates good leadership skills and is empathetic and supportive when engaging staff.
- Is able to communicate clearly, honestly and promptly.
- Is motivated, flexible, and professional at all times.
- Practice good judgment in all situations.
- Must be customer focused and sets priorities accordingly, helping coach staff in understanding proactive customer service.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including weekends and shift coverage
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for 8+ hours
- Ability to maneuver effectively around the café, office, and to/from other Sightglass locations for departmental meetings
