Responsible for performing general, non-mechanical laborer duties throughout the Plant.
- Sight inspects and removes defects or any extraneous material from product.
- Performs general, non-mechanical, labor duties throughout the plant.
- Prepares raw materials for production.
- Deposits fatback into cans by hand or meat depositor.
- Responsible for physically lifting up to 100 pounds as required.
- Responsible for container inspections to include seam inspections, proper lid placements, and proper fill levels in containers.
- Responsible for keeping work area clean to include sweeping, dumping, and/or disposing of materials used in production.
- Responsible for understanding how certain equipment operates and how to stop equipment if the automatic function fails.
- Should not leave assigned work area unless given permission by the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
- Responsible for reporting any mechanical and/or safety problems immediately to the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
- Adheres to common safety practices/guidelines, including the wearing of protective clothing and equipment as required.
- Adheres to plant hygiene standards to ensure high product integrity.
- Responsible for following food safety, legality and quality policies and procedures within the scope of the job responsibilities such as but not limited to: GMP's, HACCP, safety, product quality, food security, plant security, etc.
- Assists in loading and unloading kettles in the retorts.
- Must be able to operate a forklift, electric pallet jack, bobcat and hoist when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Leadperson.
- Basic math skills
- Ability to record data onto a spreadsheet
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate with management and co-workers
- Must be able to work overtime as required
- Must maintain a good attendance record
- Safe work habits
- Previous experience working in a food processing facility preferred.
- The ability to attend work predictably and regularly and to be punctual.
- The ability to read and understand documents, drawings, and instructions (whether presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form).
- The ability to work with mathematical concepts and to apply concepts to practical situations.
- The ability to work cooperatively with others.
- The ability to deal politely and professionally with customers and coworkers.
- The ability to perform several tasks at once.
- The ability to follow direction or instruction.
- The ability to use a computer to communicate, create, and access information.
- The ability to lift and move 100 pounds.
- The ability to sit/stand/bend/stretch, etc.
- The ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with the hands and arms.
