What You’ll Be Doing:As a Senior Radiation Physicist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting radiological safety assessments to protect our team and technology.
- Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Developing and deploying cutting-edge radiation detection systems.
- Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system.
- Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations.
- Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire vessel.
- Developing ALARP justifications to support informed design decisions.
We’re looking for candidates who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. Ideally, you will have:
- A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
- Experience with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
- Familiarity with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

Join a dynamic team responsible for designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across various submarine programs at different engineering lifecycle stages, from designing new shields to conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning. Our work also includes radiological safety studies, designing novel radiation detectors, and developing capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates.
