Leidos QTC Health Services is seeking a Lab Director to oversees enterprise laboratory operations, including multiple laboratory sites and contracted laboratory entities, ensuring regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and operational excellence. This role provides leadership across personnel management, safety oversight, technical consultation, and financial stewardship while serving as the primary laboratory subject matter expert for customer-facing and regulatory activities.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall operation and administration of laboratory services for the enterprise to include organic services and contractor entity oversight
  • Ensure all lab practices meet federal, state, and accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP)
  • Ensure that the test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care; verification procedures used are adequate to determine the accuracy, precision and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method; and laboratory personnel are performing the test methods as required for accurate and reliable results
  • Ensure that the quality control and quality assurance programs are established and maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided and to identify failures in quality as they occur
  • Ensure that all necessary remedial actions are taken and documented whenever significant deviations from the laboratory’s established performance specifications are identified and that patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly
  • Ensure that reports of test results include pertinent information required for interpretation
  • Personnel Supervision: Hire, train, evaluate, and ensure the competency of laboratory and laboratory support staff
  • Safety Oversight: Enforce safety protocols for handling hazardous materials
  • Technical Guidance: Interpret results and provide consultation to physicians or researchers
  • Customer consultant: serves as the laboratory consultant and subject matter expert for customer facing activities
  • Budgeting: Manage the laboratory budget, purchasing, and equipment maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

 Required Qualifications:

  • Certified as a laboratory director in forensic or clinic laboratory toxicology in the continental U.S. where the Contractor’s designated laboratory is located. The Contractor shall provide evidence of certification or licensure as a laboratory director with proposal and at six (6) month intervals thereafter
  • Ph.D. in one of the natural sciences as defined in HHS Guidelines;
    • Experience in forensic toxicology with emphasis on the collection and analysis of biological specimens for drugs of abuse; and
    • Experience in forensic applications of analytical toxicology (e.g. publications, court testimony, conducting research on the toxicology of drugs of abuse) or qualify as an expert witness in forensic toxicology
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing day-to-day management of a clinical laboratory
  • Minimum of three (3) years providing day-to-day management of an HHS-certified laboratory within the last three (3) years of this requirement

Additional Information:

  • May require travel up to 25%
  • This role is open to PART TIME or FULL TIME

This role may fall under the Service Contract Act (SCA), a federal law which provides for a U.S. Department of Labor-prescribed minimum prevailing rate of pay and certain benefit levels.
