Job Description
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
The Technical Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all day to day operations of their assigned department(s), ensuring that the highest quality patient care is delivered at all times. This includes fostering and maintaining strong working relationships with other departments throughout the organization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the management of all staff in designated department(s), managing operations and supplies within budgetary guidelines, review of employee performance, and acting as a technical expert for the department. This includes interviewing and hiring of new employees, annual performance reviews for all staff, collaboration with both physicians and leadership on review and management of protocols, keeping current with all policies and procedures as they relate to departmental operations, and holding regular staff meetings/in-services. The Technical Supervisor is a subject matter expert in their modality and as such, educates other departments on procedures/protocols. The technical supervisor may be requested to assist with special projects if related to their area of responsibility. Ensures department compliance with all required regulatory standards and always remains inspection ready. Actively participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Technical Supervisor is also responsible for modality specific operations at hospital adjacent imaging locations (if applicable) and is flexible to work varying shifts and cover call as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

All Technical Supervisors project an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct and support the Radiology Department mission. They participate in the continuous quality improvement process while maintaining a working knowledge and following all departmental and organizational policies and procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation and quality control requirements, as well as specific regulatory requirements of Title 22, California Licensing & Certification of Health Facilities and Title 17, California Radiation Control Regulations. Performs other duties as assigned that do not violate laws or regulations that require personnel with special licensure.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
All Technical Supervisors: Associates Degree or higher is required. Minimum of five years supervisory experience or equivalent experience in a lead role is required.

Additional Requirements For Specific Departments Are As Follows

  • Radiology, CT Scan, Interventional Radiology and MRI: Graduate of an ARRT approved Radiologic Technology program is required.
  • Ultrasound: Graduate of an ARDMS approved Ultrasound program is required.
  • Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Therapy: Graduate of a NMTCB accredited Nuclear Medicine program is required. Experience with PET/CT is preferred.
  • Interventional Radiology, CT & MRI Technical Supervisors must complete two (2) units of mandatory stroke specific training/education annually as required.

License Required

  • Radiology, CT Scan, Interventional Radiology: State of California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) License & Fluoroscopy Permit
  • MRI: State of California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) License
  • Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Therapy: State of California Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CTNM)

Certifications Required

  • All technical supervisors must have American Heart Association BLS Certification.
  • Radiology: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Certification in Radiology
  • CT Scan: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Certification in Radiology and advanced certification in CT. Valid Venipuncture Certification as required by State of California Health & Safety Code.
  • Interventional Radiology: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Certification in Radiology and advanced certification in Vascular Interventional (VI) or Cardiovascular Interventional (CV)
  • MRI: American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification in Radiology and MRI. Valid Venipuncture Certification as required by State of California Health & Safety Code.
  • Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging Technology: Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Ultrasound: ARDMS registered in more than one specialty

Certifications Preferred
Ultrasound: Additional certification in Vascular Ultrasound (RVT)
