About Dorfman Design Builders
Dorfman Design Builders (DDB) is a premier residential remodeling firm based in the heart of Indianapolis. With a legacy spanning over 70 years, we have built a reputation for excellence, integrity, and superior craftsmanship. Founded on the principle that a successful project requires a cohesive team—including clients, employees, and trade partners—we specialize in high-end kitchen and bath renovations, whole-house remodels, and complex room additions.
Led by Larry Dorfman, Indiana's first Master Certified Remodeler, our firm is committed to "hustle," flexibility, and truthful communication. We don't just build spaces; we nurture relationships and treat every vendor, subcontractor, and homeowner with the respect they deserve as part of our professional family.
Job Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Residential Remodeling Project Manager to join our team. This is a high-responsibility role that serves as the critical bridge between our design vision and the physical execution on-site. You will be responsible for managing multiple concurrent remodeling projects throughout Central Indiana, ensuring they are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the exacting standards of quality that DDB is known for.
The ideal candidate is someone who "speaks the language" of construction, possesses a sharp eye for detail, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where problem-solving is a daily requirement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Project Oversight: Lead the day-to-day operations of multiple residential remodeling sites, from initial demolition through final punch-list completion.
- Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and maintain rigorous project timelines. Coordinate the arrival and workflow of subcontractors (plumbers, electricians, tilers) and vendors to ensure zero downtime.
- Quality Control: Conduct frequent site visits to inspect work in progress. Ensure every detail—from structural integrity to the finish of a cabinet—meets DDB's "Master Certified" standards.
- Client Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for homeowners. Provide weekly progress updates, manage expectations, and resolve any concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Budget Management: Monitor project expenses and labor costs. Review and approve subcontractor invoices and ensure materials are ordered accurately to prevent costly waste or delays.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all job sites adhere to local building codes and safety regulations. Secure necessary permits and coordinate with city inspectors for timely approvals.
- Team Leadership: Foster a collaborative environment among field crews and trade partners. Resolve on-site disputes quickly and fairly to keep the team focused on the goal.
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in residential construction management, specifically within the remodeling sector (kitchens, baths, and additions).
- Field Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of residential building systems, including framing, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing), and high-end finishes.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex architectural blueprints, structural drawings, and design specifications. Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office suite.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to explain technical construction issues to a homeowner in a way that is clear and reassuring.
- Problem-Solving: A "find a way" attitude. When a wall comes down and reveals an unexpected structural issue, you are the person who stays calm and finds the solution.
- Licensing: Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required, as this role involves travel between various job sites in the Indianapolis metro area.
- Certifications: While not required, NARI certifications (CR, CLC, or CKBR) are highly viewed.
