We are currently hiring a Senior Data Scientist II (Insurance) based in our Head Office in Burnaby .
As a Senior Data Scientist II (Insurance) , you will lead the development of predictive models and explore complex data to generate insights across a wide range of insurance projects. This includes deepening our understanding of insurance portfolio and customer behaviour, and developing solutions that enhance rating sophistication, underwriting capability, and insurance products. You will collaborate with business stakeholders to define analytical goals, deliver data driven recommendations, and support the development of junior colleagues through mentoring and technical guidance.

What you'll do:
Partner with stakeholders to define project scope, modelling objectives, and analytical goals
Lead modelling approach and frameworks, including assessment, tuning, and validation methods
Develop statistical and algorithmic predictive models aligned to business needs
Test and validate models using performance metrics, compare approaches, and tune for best results
Productionalize models efficiently and assess ongoing model performance
Deliver descriptive analytics through data extraction, exploration, and analysis
Produce summaries, tables, charts, visualizations, and recommendations that inform decisions
Lead development of datasets and define data requirements with teams across the organization
Identify data limitations that may influence conclusions and implement controls where possible
Support dashboarding, reporting, and automation initiatives, including tracking metrics
Conduct research into tools, software, and methods, recommending improvements for team use
Present results and recommendations through presentations, written summaries, and email deliverables
Mentor junior colleagues, review work, support skill development, and contribute to recruitment activities
What you bring:
Undergraduate or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering
Minimum six years of experience in analytical roles, with at least five years focused on predictive modelling
Strong expertise in statistical and machine learning modelling techniques
Solid understanding of model validation, tuning, and performance metrics
Proficiency working with complex datasets using tools such as Python, R, or SAS
Ability to translate analytical findings into clear insights for technical and non-technical audiences
Experience mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to team capability development
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable leading analytical work independently
Bonus Skills:
Experience within the insurance industry, including underwriting, pricing, or portfolio analytics
Exposure to machine learning engineering practices and model deployment
Familiarity with visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau
The salary range for this position is $121,381.08 to 151,726.44 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.
Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office (3 on-site / 2 remote days). Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered.
