GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Participate in team teaching of nursing theory and clinical practice in a concept-based curriculum. Plan, supervise, and evaluate student skills, simulations on campus and clinical experiences in assigned health care facilities. Responsible for didactic and clinical instruction, including theory, lab, simulation, and clinical experiences. Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: student advising, maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, participating in mentor-mentee program, promoting and supporting extra-curricular activities, participating in professional development, and working across departments to develop student communication, computation, and problem-solving skills. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face-to-face, non-traditional teaching modalities or time frames, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. They must be able to travel to clinical facilities and be flexible to teach as needed. This position reports to the Program Director for Associate Degree Nursing and exercises no supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The cover letter should address how the following knowledge, skills, and abilities were acquired:

Knowledge of:1. Subject matter; 2. Scholarship and evidence based practices; 3. Trends in teaching/learning theory as it applies to Associate Degree Nursing; 4. ADA standards as they apply to instruction; Ability to: 5. Support the philosophy of the Associate Degree Nursing Department; 6. Maintain office hours; 7. Advise students; 8. Teach at the postsecondary level; 9. Use technology in support of instruction; 10. Evaluate student performance; 11. Promote and support related extra-curricular activities; 12. Work across departments to develop student communication, computation, and problem solving skills; 13. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and those contacted in the course of work; 14. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical effort-restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.), some walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Work environment-Minimal hazard/exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Show evidence of teaching abilities and maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject areas of teaching responsibility

Special Requirement: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's Degree in Nursing Education from an accredited college or university, with additional postgraduate work in Nursing or Education

Experience: Professional background in medical-surgical nursing, and postsecondary teaching in ADN or BSN program

Certifications:Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or other education-related nursing/healthcare certification
