Join our dedicated legal team as a Paralegal supporting a wide range of legal services and community outreach initiatives. The Paralegal at IRLA is a client-focused legal professional working under attorney supervision to advance IRLA's mission of expanding access to justice for low-income individuals and families across in Indian River County.

The role blends case management, legal drafting support, research, court filings, grant compliance, and community engagement. The Paralegal acts as a central execution hub for client communication and document workflow while ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with funding obligations.

Core Functional Relationships

  • Clients & Community: Front-line intake, fact gathering, case updates, deadline communication, legal-rights education, and support for outreach clinics and workshops.
  • Attorneys & Leadership: Drafting pleadings, motions, correspondence, discovery support, evidence/exhibit organization, legal research, and trial preparation, all under supervision.
  • Courts & Agencies: Electronic and in-person filings, deadline tracking, hearing coordination, and procedural compliance.
  • Grant & Program Compliance: Data entry and metrics tracking for funding reports, case outcomes, and service impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Support & Case Management
  • Conduct intake, eligibility screening, and interviews
  • Gather case facts and documents
  • Maintain case records in management systems
  • Communicate case status, deadlines, and next steps
  • Legal Research & Document Preparation
  • Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, and correspondence under supervision
  • Prepare discovery, evidence packets, affidavits, affidavits, and exhibits
  • Conduct legal research using reliable online and print sources
  • Prepare standard legal forms and supporting documents
  • Court & Administrative Support
  • File documents electronically or in person
  • Track deadlines and hearing dates
  • Organize exhibits, witness lists, and trial-prep materials
  • Grant Compliance & Metrics Tracking
  • Maintain outcome and service-metric records for funding reports
  • Support data collection and reporting entry
  • Ensure procedural alignment with funding requirements
  • Outreach & Community Engagement
  • Support workshops, clinics, and community outreach
  • Provide legal-rights information and resource guidance
  • Assist with evening/weekend events as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Florida Registered Paralegal (FRP) certification preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal, Legal Studies, or related field preferred
  • Prior paralegal or legal assistant experience
  • Strong organization and deadline discipline
  • Clear and professional writing and communication
  • Microsoft Office and case-system proficiency
  • Demonstrated commitment to access-to-justice initiatives

Work Environment

  • Full-time (40 hours/week)
  • Mix of office, court, and community outreach settings
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours depending on Clinic programming
