What You’ll Be Doing:As a Senior Radiation Physicist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting radiological safety assessments to protect our team and technology.
- Assessing radiation damage risk to electronics, ensuring reliability in critical systems.
- Developing and deploying cutting-edge radiation detection systems.
- Completing the systems engineering design of the secondary shielding system.
- Running and analyzing point kernel and Monte Carlo calculations.
- Providing technical advice on the impact of changes and defects across the entire submarine.
- Developing ALARP justifications to support informed design decisions.
We’re looking for candidates who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise:
- A degree in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Nuclear Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, or nuclear safety.
- Familiarity with radiological safety assessments and ALARP justifications.
- Experience with radiation transport methods (e.g., ATTILLA, MCBEND, MCNP).

- Designing new shields and assessing design changes during the build program.
- Conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning.
- Performing radiological safety studies and developing novel radiation detectors.
- Enhancing our capabilities in radiation damage to electronics.
