Employment Type: Part timeShift: Description:

Under minimal supervision, according to established policies and professional standards, performs or oversees the performance of all phases of outpatient pharmacy services. Consults with and advises medical and nursing staff, as well as patients, regarding information on medications, including dosing and monitoring drug therapy, drug incompatibilities, warning and contraindications. Dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using appropriate procedures to fill prescriptions issued by qualified prescribers. Provides supervision of pharmacy technicians and oversees regular work routine involving interpretation of physician's orders and dispensing of medication to individual patients.

Shift Schedule:

  • Most common: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Less common: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM or 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Rare (weekends): 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

What the Pharmacist, Retail, PRN 0 FTE will need:

  • Completion of Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate in Pharmacy.

  • Prior retail pharmacy experience preferred.

  • Licensed by the State of Michigan to practice pharmacy and dispense controlled substances.

What the Pharmacist, Retail, PRN 0 FTE will do:

  • Reviews, interprets and fills orders generated by qualified prescribers.

  • Contact physician office, patient and/or insurance company when necessary to complete prescription safely and accurately.

  • Regularly supervises the work of technicians as they assist in providing the filling, labels and dispensing of orders. Certifies by initial the complete inspection of all prescription medications filled and dispensed.

  • Monitors pharmacy drug inventory on a monthly basis in order to check expiration and supply levels. Disposes of unused and/or contaminated drugs/solutions.

  • Maintains records of controlled substances, inventory and distribution as required by state and federal law.

  • Counsels patients on proper use of medication and possible side effects when requested by patient or physician. Answers questions regarding dosage, compatibility, etc.
