Job Description:Iowa State University is seeking a detail-oriented (MLT) Medical Laboratory Technician to support diagnostic testing services in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This position plays a vital role in performing diagnostic tests across various species, ensuring quality control, and assisting in training future veterinary professionals in a clinical and research laboratory environment. If you're looking to get into animal diagnostics, this is your opportunity — no prior animal experience is required, and we will provide full training on the veterinary side.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic testing, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, and cytology, on multi-species samples.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analyzers.
- Manage blood banking and coagulation procedures.
- Enter and review test data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Train students, residents, and new staff on lab procedures and equipment.
- Conduct quality control checks and routine instrument maintenance.
- Maintain lab inventory, organize referral test submissions, and update lab records.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

- Performs a variety of tests and confirms test results.
- Reports findings to physicians.
- Plans, develops, and formulates procedures for lab tests.
- Inventories supplies.
- Collects samples of body fluids for testing.
- Prepares specimens.
- Operates and calibrates clinical laboratory equipment.
- Advises clinicians and other health care providers on methods of collecting specimens.

- Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope

- May provide guidance to students
