The Director of Product Management is a strategic, customer-centric leader responsible for owning the product portfolio strategy across categories, driving innovation, and ensuring cross-functional alignment. This role serves as the internal voice of the customer and is a key partner to Sales, Engineering, and Marketing. The Director oversees the full product lifecycle from concept through commercialization and provides market intelligence to guide business planning, pricing strategy, and long-term growth initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

  • Follow plant safety procedures and guidelines
  • Inform supervisor of safety issues; report any workplace injury or incident immediately

Task

Product Strategy & Lifecycle Management

  • Own and drive the strategic product roadmap across categories based on customer needs, market trends, and internal capabilities.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle, including new product development, enhancements, rationalization, and end-of-life planning.
  • Conduct regular category reviews to assess performance, identify underperforming SKUs, evaluate internal trends, and uncover opportunities for growth, simplification, or innovation.
  • Identify white space opportunities and lead cross-functional ideation sessions to bring forward commercially viable concepts.
  • Maintain alignment with corporate ESG goals by integrating sustainability considerations into product strategy and design partnerships.
  • Serve as a critical partner to Engineering in Stage Gate planning and prioritization, ensuring feasibility, timing, and cost-effectiveness.

Commercialization & Go-to-Market Execution

  • Lead product commercialization planning, partnering with Engineering, Sales, and Marketing to ensure successful launches.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to align messaging, packaging graphics, and promotional strategies across channels.
  • Define sales enablement needs and drive development of spec sheets, pitch decks, competitive comparisons, and training content.
  • Join key customer calls and business reviews to present product strategies, provide proactive product recommendations and uncover new opportunities.

Customer & Market Insight

  • Act as the voice of the customer across all internal functions.
  • Conduct voice-of-customer work, competitive benchmarking, and trend monitoring to inform product strategy.
  • Provide market data and packaging insights to support the Pricing team in shaping price positioning and value communication.
  • Stay informed on regulatory and legislative developments (e.g., EPR, PCR mandates, compostability standards) and coordinate product response as needed—collaborating with internal subject matter experts and sustainability leads.

Portfolio & Performance Management

  • Own product-level performance metrics: revenue, profitability, growth pipeline, and rationalization health.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Finance to ensure alignment on cost targets, inventory strategy, and margin management.
  • Support annual budgeting and long-range planning with market-informed product insights and revenue projections.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Capable of leading and mentoring a team of product managers and product specialists.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration and organizational alignment across Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Operations.
  • Support company Food Safety efforts through commitment and compliance to SQF standard practices and policies
  • Follow plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices, or GMP's

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Packaging, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 8–10+ years in product management, ideally in food packaging, plastics, or adjacent industry.
  • Proven track record leading cross-functional product launches and lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of sustainability trends (e.g., PCR, EPR, compostability) and packaging regulations.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, matrixed environment with shifting priorities

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee's work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Employee is expected to maintain an organized work area and contribute to the overall decorum of a professional setting. A minimal amount of work will require exposure to the manufacturing facility. Employee is expected to be familiar and in compliance with all plant safety and cleanliness (GMP) regulations. Workdays are generally Monday through Friday; however, the employee is expected to work additional, including weekend hours as required fulfilling job duties.
