Dental Assistant

Job Overview

Responsibilities

• Assist dentists during various procedures, including general root canals, apicoectomies, and retreatments.
• Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are available
• Operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners while adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques
• Take vital signs and medical history documentation to support patient assessments
• Manage electronic medical records using EMR systems like PracticeWorks, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Provide patient education on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions
• Maintain infection control standards by following proper sterilization procedures and safety protocols
• Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed
• Ensure the clinic environment remains organized, clean, and compliant with all health regulations

Skills

• Proficiency with EMR systems including PracticeWorks for managing medical records and documentation
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security
• Experience with dental imaging techniques such as X-ray and 3D scanning technology
• Familiarity with dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry
• Ability to perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques efficiently
• Understanding of infection control practices and aseptic techniques in a clinical setting
• Experience working in general dentistry or specialized fields such as pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, or endodontics is preferred
• Strong communication skills suitable for working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics
• Ability to operate dental equipment safely and effectively while maintaining high standards of patient care
