Job Summary

The Safety Specialist plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety and compliance across all construction projects, including roofing, solar, coatings, and other services. Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, this position involves developing, implementing, and overseeing safety protocols, providing strategic guidance, conducting inspections, delivering training, and leading incident management efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Collaborate with the Safety Manager to develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide safety policies and practices.

· Conduct daily job site visits to evaluate work practices, identify hazards, and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.

· Ensure compliance with Cal-OSHA regulations, particularly those related to roofing, solar, and construction operations.

· Lead weekly safety meetings with crews, delivering content effectively in both English and Spanish.

· Evaluate and maintain the condition of safety equipment through monthly inspections of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, ladders, and other essential tools.

· Perform comprehensive bi-annual inspections of fall protection gear and maintain detailed compliance records.

· Develop and implement Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) tailored to specific projects in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

· Investigate incidents promptly, including gathering evidence such as photographs and interviews, and prepare detailed reports with corrective action recommendations.

· Analyze trends in vehicle safety on job sites, including vehicle conditions and loading practices, and propose solutions to improve safety outcomes.

· Mentor site supervisors on safety leadership and accountability to foster a proactive safety culture.

· Recommend safety-related training programs and initiatives based on emerging risks and industry best practices.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction safety, with a proven ability to manage and enhance safety programs.

· Proficiency in both English and Spanish, including the ability to develop bilingual safety materials and deliver training.

· Strong understanding of Cal-OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.

· OSHA 30 certification or equivalent required within the first 90 days of employment.

· Competent Person certification in fall protection required within the first 180 days of employment.

· Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence organizational safety culture.

· Clean driving record and the ability to travel to various job sites within Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.

Additional Information

· This is an exempt position requiring significant independent judgment and discretion to align safety strategies with organizational objectives.

· Travel is required; use of a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement will be provided as per company policy.

· Physical requirements include the ability to navigate construction sites, operate safety equipment, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72, $80,000.00 per year
