Your opportunity:
Through the Strategic Initiatives unit, the Department of Computer Science is expanding its presence, domestically and internationally, by developing a broad partnership network, with the goal of achieving a large number of deeply intertwined, meaningful collaborative projects between our faculty and industry partners. These new partnerships will allow faculty members to expand their collaborative networks and will also enhance student experience by developing opportunities for students to connect with industry.
As part of the Strategic Initiatives team, the Research Grant Writer & Coordinator leads the research grant applications to support these partnerships. The position supports the grant and award applications process by advising leadership within the Strategic Initiatives team as well as faculty on funding application strategies, and coordinating and guiding applicants through pre-award phasesof the research funding application process. The Research Grant Writer & Coordinator works with sponsor guidelines to complete, enhance, and submit research applications, independently in many cases; advises on improvements to draft funding proposals to meet requirements and successful outcomes; conducts detailed review of applications; and keeps well-informed on research funding programs, application guidelines, policies/procedures and regulations funding. This position serves an integral role in researching and recommending new opportunities for external funding and awards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising faculty on funding application strategies
- Researching, analyzing and recommending grant opportunities
- Fostering positive relationships with project partners
- Writing & editing content for grant applications
- Disseminating information regarding research funding programs and opportunities to the research community
- Advising on improvements to draft funding proposals to better meet agency requirements, reviewing to ensure that application guidelines are met
- Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications
- Keeping well-informed on research funding programs, application guidelines, policies/procedures and regulations
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience. A degree in Computer Science is an asset.
- Minimum five years recent and related experience in pre-award administration of research grants and applications, including coordinating research grant funding application submission, making recommendations for application improvement, developing budget proposals, and tracking project progress, with some experience with direct grant and technical writing
- Experience and proven track record of securing grants from government agencies, foundations, and corporations
- Demonstrated experience writing, editing, reviewing and submitting communications materials, such as grant funding applications, reports, proposals, and award nominations
- Strong technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively
- Experience researching, identifying, and advising on research funding opportunities and collaboration
- Demonstrated experience working directly with granting agencies (including MITACS, NSERC, NSF and/or OCE) and identifying potential granting opportunities
- Demonstrated experience administrating, interpreting, and enforcing University guidelines and practices and granting agency guidelines
- Experience conducting research, drafting proposals, and creating/maintaining databases
- Experience developing and presenting workshops and accompanying resources
- Experience planning and building budgets
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent planning, project coordination, and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and negotiation skills
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Advanced skills in MS office, specifically MS Excel & Word, and Adobe Acrobat
