SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide physical therapy to clients with neuromusculoskeletal disabilities in

accordance with existing standards of practice and ethical principles of the American
Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

  • Implement treatment plan for clients with neuromusculoskeletal disabilities.
  • Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) provide physical therapy services under the

direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.

  • Care provided by a PTA may include teaching patients/clients exercise for mobility,

strength and coordination, training for activities such as walking with crutches, canes,
or walkers, massage, and the use of physical agents and electrotherapy such as
ultrasound and electrical stimulation.

  • This position status is PRN; therefore, team member will be scheduled on an as needed basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • PTAs provide a variety of physical therapy techniques as they carry out the physical

therapist's plan of care for the patient, including therapeutic exercise, functional
training, deep soft tissue massage, and physical modalities such as electrotherapy
and ultrasound.

  • PTAs may also assist the physical therapist by working with individuals to prevent loss

of mobility by implementing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier
and more active lifestyles.

  • Observe patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the skills of effective time management
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal communications skills while maintaining

standards of professional ethics

  • Professionally uses medical equipment and reports any faults.
  • Reports any problems in the operations to the Physical Therapy Coordinator.
  • Maintains the well-being and safety of the patient during treatment
  • Implementation of the home treatment program(s).
  • Completes all documentation that is required for each patient (in a timely manner.)
  • Participates in and attends rehabilitation team conferences and clinic staff meetings

as scheduled.

  • Perform other duties as delegated, required or requested.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
A. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
1. Physical therapy assistant minimum 1 year of experience (in pediatric setting
preferred).
2. Successful completion of fieldwork experience or job experience in related area.
3. Graduation from accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
4. Experience treating pediatric population preferred.
5. Treatment of children with neurologic and musculoskeletal disabilities (minimum of 3
years of experience).
6. Instruction and training of physical therapy courses (minimum of 1 year of
experience).
7. Teamwork and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
8. Excellent communication and educational methodology.
9. Excellent writing and documenting skills.
10. Proficiency in physical therapy techniques and equipment.

C. QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
1. Associate's degree in physical therapy assistant.
2. Registration with the National Board of Certification in PTA.
3. Active State of Texas Physical Therapy Assistant license.
4. Licensed by the Executive Council of Physical and Occupational Therapy Examiners in
the State of Texas (ECPTOTE).
5. Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification for Health Care Providers.

D. GENERAL INFORMATION:
1. Bilingual in Spanish preferred
