Metglas, Inc., located in Conway, SC, is a world leading producer of Amorphous Metal Ribbon. Since our company began in the 1970's, Metglas, Inc. (then Allied Signal located in Morristown, NJ) pioneered the development and production of amorphous metal, a unique alloy that exhibits a structure in which the metal atoms occur in a random pattern. The key to Metglas Inc.'s proprietary manufacturing process is the rapid-solidification of molten alloy at a rate of approximately one million degrees Celsius per second.

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated CNC Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team.

In this role, you will operate, set up, and maintain CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce precision parts and components. Your expertise in CNC programming, blueprint reading, and mechanical knowledge will be essential in ensuring high-quality output that meets strict specifications. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining equipment, including CNC lathes and milling machines, while contributing to innovative manufacturing processes. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about precision machining, we want to hear from you

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC milling machines and CNC lathes, primarily using Fanuc controls, to produce complex parts with precision and efficiency.
  • Program CNC machines using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software and write or modify CNC code based on engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and engineering documentation to ensure accurate production.
  • Set up machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and calibration devices such as bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment to ensure optimal operation; troubleshoot issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, height gauges, and laser measurement tools to verify part dimensions during production.
  • Apply electrical discharge machining (EDM) techniques when necessary for complex or hard materials requiring specialized cutting methods.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying waste reduction opportunities and optimizing machining processes for efficiency.
  • Assist with assembly tasks when required, utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and plastics injection molding techniques.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area adhering to safety standards; operate forklifts and other material handling equipment as needed.
  • Work shifts rotate and are 12-hour shifts (7a-7p & 7p-7a), to include weekends and operating holidays.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in CNC programming languages such as G-code; experience with CAM programming software is highly desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading combined with GD&T principles for precise manufacturing.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of machining processes including milling, turning, drilling, and grinding.
  • Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) techniques for advanced manufacturing applications.
  • Experience operating CNC lathe and milling machines equipped with Fanuc controls or similar systems.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, height gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and laser measurement tools accurately.
  • Competence in using hand tools, power tools, tooling setups, welding equipment, and assembly tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of plastics injection molding processes is a plus for versatile manufacturing environments.
  • Basic math skills for calculations related to measurements and tolerances; attention to detail is critical for quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles to promote continuous improvement in production workflows.
  • Valid forklift certification preferred for safe handling of raw materials and finished products on-site. Join us as a CNC Machinist if you're eager to leverage your technical skills in a vibrant manufacturing setting where quality meets innovation
