Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks related to patient care. This role requires proficiency in medical office procedures, EMR systems, and a strong understanding of healthcare documentation and billing processes. Bilingual abilities and clinic experience are highly valued to ensure effective communication with diverse patient populations. The Patient Service Representative will play a vital role in maintaining smooth clinic operations and supporting healthcare providers in delivering quality patient care.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out processes using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and Dentrix
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification to facilitate billing processes
- Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and coordinate care plans in accordance with clinic protocols
- Collect payments and perform medical collections while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Review and update medical records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, and medical billing information
- Assist with phone triage using multi-line phone systems, providing excellent phone etiquette and patient service
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information following HIPAA guidelines and health information management standards
- Support administrative tasks such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), document review, and managing electronic health records (EHR systems)
- Facilitate communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies to ensure seamless care delivery
Requirements
- Prior experience in medical office administration or clinical setting preferred; dental clinic experience is a plus
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, or Eaglesoft
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with office management software is desirable
- Excellent customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and clerical support experience
- Ability to handle sensitive health information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Bilingual capabilities are highly preferred to serve diverse patient populations
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and appointment scheduling
- Previous experience working at a front desk or as a medical receptionist is advantageous
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy
