Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and engaging Activity Assistant to join our team on weekends. This role is vital in enhancing the quality of life for residents in assisted living, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior care, dementia or Alzheimer's care, and recreational therapy, with a passion for creating meaningful activities that promote socialization, mental stimulation, and overall well-being. The Activity Assistant will work closely with residents to facilitate enjoyable and therapeutic activities tailored to their needs and interests.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead engaging recreational activities for residents, including games, arts and crafts, music sessions, and outings.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, fostering independence and dignity.
- Manage activity schedules to ensure a diverse and balanced program that caters to various interests and cognitive levels.
- Provide companionship and social interaction to residents, especially those with memory impairments or dementia.
- Collaborate with caregiving staff to identify individual resident needs and preferences for personalized activity planning.
- Support residents in participating in community events or outings when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate documentation of resident participation and response to activities.
- Ensure a safe environment during all activities by adhering to safety protocols and supervising residents closely.
Requirements
- Prior experience in assisted living, nursing home settings, or long-term care is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia care, memory care, and senior care best practices.
- Experience with recreational therapy or working with people with disabilities is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to assist residents with ADLs while promoting independence whenever possible.
- Excellent schedule management skills to coordinate multiple activities throughout the weekend shifts.
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in enhancing the lives of seniors and individuals with special needs.
- Ability to work weekends reliably and provide consistent support to residents during Saturday and Sunday shifts. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents while developing valuable skills in senior care and activity planning.
