Are you a dynamic leader ready to guide a team of passionate Generalists, Lifeguards, and Junior Counselors while fostering a supportive camp community? As a Generalist Coordinator, you'll supervise 15-20 staff members across both Eastside and Westside, manage schedules to meet camp needs, and ensure safety standards are upheld at the waterfront. You'll also mentor Junior Counselors, providing daily professional development and helping them grow as educators and caretakers.   • Location: Wiscasset, Maine

    • On Campus, Residential (Seasonal) 

  • Schedule/2026 Dates: June 14, August 16, 2026

  • Reports to: Program Head

  • Direct Reports: Generalist and Junior Counselors

  • Exempt/Non-exempt: Exempt

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage Generalist Counselors/Lifeguards including;

    • Create and share daily schedules with Generalist Counselors and hold accountability for Generalists, particularly during non-structured program time.

    • Conduct regular check-ins and provide guidance and support as needed.

    • Complete and deliver formal evaluations of Generalists.

  • Supervise and manage Junior Counselors including:

    • Facilitate Junior Counselor training and ongoing professional development using pre-written curriculum.

    • Coordinate with Age Group Coordinators and the Activity Coordinator to ensure Junior Counselors are matched with age groups and activity areas that they are interested in.

    • Conduct regular check-ins and provide guidance and support as needed.

    • Support Junior Counselors in planning events and serve as the primary liaison between Junior Counselors and leadership in executing these events.

    • Support Junior Counselor experience through creating opportunities for them to build relationships with other staff.

  • Supervise lifeguards and oversee the Waterfront:

    • Open waterfront(s) at the start of free swim activity periods.

    • Ensure the adherence to safety protocols through observations and training, in coordination with the Director of Outdoor programs. 

    • Support with in-service trainings throughout the summer.

    • Support the Program Head with the lifeguard schedule creation and distribution.

    • Act as additional lifeguard as needed.

  • Maintain essential duties as a member of the Coordinator team. 

    • Meet with other Coordinator Team members to discuss and address camp concerns; 

    • Participate in Leader of the Day (LoD) rotation to ensure camp schedule runs smoothly.

  • Instill joy and enthusiasm into the daily life of camp. 

  • Residential Responsibilities: This is a residential position. On-site housing is provided as part of the role and is available only while you are actively employed. Housing ends when employment concludes.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must pass Criminal Background Check.

  • Lifeguard Certification required (certification offered by Chewonki).

    • Previous waterfront experience, preferred

  • Experience working in camp, educational, or recreational settings.

  • Experience supervising or managing others.

  • This position is eligible for a stipend for driving responsibilities if the following qualifications are met (ability to qualify for driving responsibilities strongly preferred):

    • Valid driver's license and driving record approved by Chewonki's Insurance Carrier, must attend Driver's Training. 

    • At least 21 years old (to drive participants).

  • Attend required onboarding and training sessions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Must have the strength and endurance to provide constant supervision of campers both in and out of the water, including performing rescues in a variety of water conditions.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment up to 50 lbs (e.g. rescue tubes, first aid kits).

  • Ability to respond quickly in sudden situations including diving, running, or carrying individuals if needed. 

  • Vision and hearing requirements: Able to see and hear effectively to monitor swimmers and campers/participants.

  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Starting Salary: $5,100
