Job Overview

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurosurgery team at M Health Fairview.  The Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a member of the health care team who works in collaboration with licensed physicians to provide comprehensive health care services to patients in the Neurosurgery practice location. The APP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats neurosurgery critical care telemetry patients in collaboration with Neurosurgery, Critical Care and the Hospital Medicine Service Physicians/Providers and staff.

Job Highlights:

  • Largely clinic-based, but OR and hospital coverage will still be part of this role.
  • Clinics covered will primarily be Princeton, Fridley and Edina, but cross-coverage is possible at any of our community neurosurgery clinics.
  • As part of the larger call pool, call coverage would also cover Southdale, St John's, Woodwinds and Ridges.
  • Weekend rotation - roughly 1:6.  

Responsibilities

  • Systematically assesses patients' health status, arrives at appropriate diagnosis(es), and implements care plan for effective clinical outcomes.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
  • Ensures assigned patients are properly and efficiently admitted and receive appropriate and responsive medical care according to their condition, symptoms and diagnosis. Develops a plan of care in conjunctions with other primary and specialty physicians and interdisciplinary staff to ensure quality care of patients. Communicates effectively with primary and specialist physicians.
  • Communicates with patients and families to explain diagnosis, procedures, expected diagnostic or therapeutic treatments, prognosis and/or recovery periods, and potential or expected outcomes; and to obtain informed consent.
