Currently only looking for those who know how to play guitar and produce music/ songs. Additional knowledge of piano preferred but not required.
Please read through to ensure you are a good candidate for this position. As you read ahead you will surely notice, we take the comfort ability and passion of our instructors most seriously, and we are therefore looking for those who have a true love for teaching. With one more note, our specialty is executive functioning. This requires a tutor to be able to help a student plan, organize, self learn, prioritize, and execute better.
we are looking to take on many new tutors to kick off the 25-26 school year. unfortunately we do not currently have a need for those with a primary teaching basis in foreign language or social sciences. Please look out for future postings of these subject matters. While this position is primarily set to begin in the fall, instructors are more than welcome to start over the summer. looking forward to hearing from you all
Please take a self reflective look before applying, and determine whether this seems like a good fit for your skill set.
Generals about this position:
The benefit of this position is that instructors are free to make their own schedule. While group format class times cannot be amended, private instruction can be scheduled at the instructors' discretion. This means that instructors will be able to plan and design their own schedules independently with their students.
All private instruction will take place at students' homes (or occasionally at nearby libraries). For this reason, it is important to take into consideration the travel time between students. We expect our instructors to be willing to travel up to 20 miles at a minimum for instruction. We also expect all incoming instructors to have AT LEAST 5 AFTER-SCHOOL hours available each week to start.
The aforementioned group classes are a vital part of this company. Total Tutors hosts a wide variety of classes from reading to math and writing. All instructors are welcome to inquire about teaching one of our group classes, or propose a new class to teach As mentioned above, these classes unfortunately have more rigid time constraints, as they depend on room availability. While these classes do pay at a higher rate, they also require more flexible availability.
While we hope to give each instructor as many hours as they wish, hours depend on incoming client calls. It is important to recognize that certain parts of the school year will be slower than others (taking school breaks and testing into consideration). The longer an instructor stays with our company, the more hours we will be able to give them. Having said that, it is important oncoming instructors understand that this is not the type of position that will give 20+ hours a week. This position pays a high hourly rate, because there are not as many workable hours in the week (namely after-school hours). Our average instructor has about 9-10 client hours a week. Many instructors work this position in conjunction with another position or school. For those looking for 20+ hours a week for a full time position, it would be best to look elsewhere. Again, the hours that are workable will be paid at a high hourly rate to compensate for travel time and gas.
Specifics about this position
About the company:
Hi Thank you for applying to our Tutoring Company, winner of "Best Tutoring Company in Orange County" two years in a row
Total Tutors is a comprehensive education program based in Orange County. Total Tutors prides itself on delivering the TOP level of education to all students, and that education of this level is a right for all, not a privilege for a few. Total Tutors uses a psychology backed approach along with self-made assessments to help teach students how to learn at the highest level, so they may better be able to help themselves. Our greatest ambition is to longer be needed.
Total Tutors also focuses on a "full person" approach to education, assisting with not just academics, but with enrichment, social emotional learning, executive functioning, STEM, and extracurriculars as well, to help our students become more adapted, all around better learners.
Our instructors:
Many people have applied to our company, and after working with so many talented individuals, we can say for certain we are looking for one thing- dedication. Education is a job that requires passion and dedication to one's students. For those who are looking to pass the time with some extra work and some extra money, this is not the position for you. Whether you work 5 hours or 15 hours, those hours should be fully dedicated to your students. Education, like anything else, is a skill. It requires those who practice it to be dedicated to honing and perfecting it.
While we are confident those of you applying are well versed in your fields, "to know a subject" does not necessarily one can teach a subject. For those who believe that knowing something well means you can naturally teach it to others, this is not the position for you. We are looking for instructors who value, and are always working on bettering, their ability to break-down, repurpose, and distribute information in different forms.
Please take a self reflective look before applying, and determine whether this seems like a good fit for your skill set.
