The Shelborne introduces four vibrant new food & beverage destinations to the neighborhood, each suited for warm weather dining, with an all-day signature restaurant, a lobby bar- lounge, and curated cafe. Resort amenities include a spacious pool and lush garden lounge, indoor-outdoor cabanas, sundeck terrace, state-of-the-art fitness center, dedicated access to a private beach club, and more than 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor meeting & event space.
Job Summary:
The Beverage Manager supports the overall beverage operations at the Lobby Bar, maintaining beverage quality standards and ensuring exceptional guest service. This role assists in implementing beverage programs, training bar staff, managing inventory, and contributing to profitability goals. The Beverage Manager works closely with the F&B Director to maintain operational efficiency, team effectiveness, and guest satisfaction. This position requires strong beverage knowledge, leadership capabilities, and the ability to uphold Proper Hospitality's commitment to elevated service.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee daily bar and beverage operations to ensure smooth, consistent, and efficient service across all outlets.
- Assisting in implementing beverage programs, menu changes, and service standards that align with the hotel's brand and guest experience goals.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal alcohol regulations, as well as food safety and sanitation standards.
- Monitor beverage inventory levels and execute ordering processes to maintain proper stock while minimizing waste.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all beverage storage and service areas.
Team Leadership & Staff Support
- Support the training, coaching, and development of bartenders, servers, hostesses, bussers, and runners.
- Lead by example to reinforce service standards, product knowledge, and Proper Hospitality culture.
- Assist with staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage for business needs.
- Help foster a positive, collaborative, and energized team environment.
- Facilitate communication between bar teams and other operational departments.
Financial Oversight & Cost Management
Assisting in monitoring beverage cost controls, including COGS, waste management, and inventory accuracy.
Support execution of pricing strategies, promotions, and menu engineering initiatives to drive revenue.
- Participate in weekly and monthly financial reviews to identify improvement opportunities.
Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Ensure all beverages meet quality and presentation standards, contributing to a memorable guest experience.
- Respond to guest concerns or service incidents with professionalism and prompt resolution.
- Support initiatives that enhance guest engagement through beverage experiences, tastings, or events.
Beverage Menu Execution & Product Quality
- Help maintain and update beverage menus, ensuring offerings complement the culinary program and meet guest preferences.
- Assist with the rollout of seasonal cocktails, specials, and new program elements.
- Maintain consistency in beverage preparation through recipe adherence and training.
- Stay informed on industry trends, mixology techniques, and emerging products.
Marketing & Promotion Support
- Collaborate with the Director of F&B and the marketing team to promote beverage programs, signature drinks, and special events.
- Help ensure promotional materials and digital content accurately reflect beverage offerings.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors, suppliers, and distributors.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure staff follow all alcohol service laws and adhere to health and sanitation standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of bar areas for cleanliness, organization, and compliance.
- Uphold safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for guests and employees.
Event & Catering Coordination
- Assist with planning and executing beverage service for catered events, banquets, and private functions.
- Coordinate with the banquet and catering teams to fulfill beverage requirements for large-scale events.
- Oversee event bar setups, staffing, and service execution to ensure proper standards.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in bar or beverage operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Experience with beverage inventory management, cost control, and service standards.
- Proven ability to support the execution of beverage programs.
Skills / Specialized Knowledge
- Strong leadership abilities with experience coaching and motivating teams.
- Extensive knowledge of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, mixology, spirits, wine, and beer.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for both guest and staff interactions.
- Solid understanding of cost control, inventory systems, and financial performance.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal alcohol service laws and safety standards.
- Proficiency in POS systems, inventory management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during shifts.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., boxes of supplies, inventory, or equipment).
- Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching to perform tasks or manage inventory.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs.
