The North Tahoe Community Alliance (NTCA) leads collaborative efforts to improve community
vitality, strengthen the regional economy, and advance environmental stewardship. The organization also advocates for and funds local transportation and workforce housing solutions, visitor services, and promotes responsible, off-peak-season travel with a focus on stewardship education. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and committees comprised of local business owners and their representatives, the NTCA is funded by a Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) in contract with Placer County.

Role Overview
The Business Development Manager cultivates opportunities for new and emerging businesses in North Tahoe through curated retail opportunities, consignment partnerships, rotating merchandise, mentoring, and partnerships. It supports the local artisans through rotating exhibit programs within the Visitor Information Centers. This role oversees the Visitor Information Centers as hubs for business support, stewardship education, and high-quality visitor experiences that connect visitors directly to the local economy. This role oversees the activation and implementation of our presence at sponsored events.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Development
- Manage VIC staffing, scheduling, onboarding, and ongoing training, with oversight of retail performance and guest service standards.
- Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that encourages idea-sharing, creativity, and professional growth.
- Lead regular team meetings and monthly check-ins to promote open communication, alignment, and cross-team collaboration.
- Lead Concierge program, empowering frontline staff to serve as knowledgeable ambassadors for local businesses, events, and regional experiences.
Business Development
- Champion business development by cultivating strong relationships with local business owners and connecting them to Chamber support, programs, referrals, and Lake Tahoe–specific experiences.
- Lead initiatives that strengthen and grow the regional business ecosystem, including new business attraction and engagement strategies.
- Support downtown activations and visitor-facing programming that drive foot traffic and economic activity for local businesses.
- Support district revitalization implementation efforts in coordination with Chamber leadership and partners.
VIC Management
- Oversee daily operations of the Tahoe City and Kings Beach Visitor Information Centers, ensuring they function as effective business-support and visitor-engagement hubs.
- Curate retail offerings, local artisan partnerships, and rotating exhibit displays through a consignment-based model.
- Track and report key performance indicators, including visitor interactions, business referrals, data trends, retail sales, and economic impact.
- Maintain high-quality guest experiences, consistent merchandising standards, stewardship education, and Chamber brand alignment.
Business Community Engagement
- Collaborate with Marketing on signage, collateral, photo assets, and visitor promotions that elevate local businesses and Chamber initiatives.
- Lead stewardship education initiatives in partnership with UC Davis TERC and other community partners.
- Lead the implementation, staffing, and operational needs for sponsorship events and community engagement.
- Collaborate with cultural partners to integrate retail, educational programming, and authentic community voices into exhibits (e.g., Washoe Tribe murals and interpretive videos).
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in community engagement, membership management, or experience working with a business association or chamber.
- Deep experience working with a team, strong networking and relationship-building skills, with a passion for collaboration.
- Skilled in team motivation, conflict resolution, and navigating dynamic environments with professionalism.
- Demonstrated strength in relationship-building, networking, and community engagement, with a passion for supporting local businesses and economic growth.
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the Tahoe region; local or regional roots strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, professional, and transparent communicator.
- Spanish language proficiency a plus.
- Demonstrated functional competence across areas of project management, including organizational design, creating and executing strategic priorities, and developing strategic relationships with key stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Shopify, Submittable, BILL, or organizational platforms preferred.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multi-location operations.
