Position Brief:
This position assists residents of an OASAS licensed community residence to maintain sobriety as they develop their recovery and skills to transition to independent living. All shifts are stay awake shifts. This position is listed under the "Career Ladder" per New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports Substance (OASAS) Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor Scope of Practice, and therefore, all education/training/qualification requirements, permitted functions and supervision levels will be both required and adhered too.
Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm, or 8:30am-4:30pm, or 9:00am-5:00pm

What an Addiction Counselor can expect at BHSN:
- Perform duties in accordance with OASAS Counselor Scope of Practice, including:
With Regular Supervision:
- Screening
- SUD and COD Screening;
- Intake/ Orientation;
- SUD Assessment/ SUD Diagnostic Impression/ LOC as determined by LOCADTR
- Treatment Planning
- Individual & Group Counseling; Family Counseling
- Psycho-education
- Case Management
- Crisis Intervention
- Client Education
- Referral; Reporting & Recordkeeping; Care Coordination.
- Assists resident with case management needs including but not limited to transportation, linkage to other services and discharge planning
- Maintains accurate, timely documentation in accordance with Federal/State regulations and BHSN policies/procedures, including those relating to scope of practice
- Completes all trainings required by BHSN and regulatory agencies
- Attends various meetings/appointments to represent BHSN and/or resident(s)
- Meets productivity standards as determined by supervisor, which may be subject to change without notice
- Assists residents in maintaining a safe clean dwelling
- Performs other duties consistent with position description as assigned
- Maintains client confidentiality and confidential health information;
- Participates in meetings as scheduled;
- Additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of an Associate's in a Human Services related field
- Minimum of CASAC-T issued by OASAS
- Successful completion of all requested background checks
- Addiction specific training
- Strong interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software and in maintenance of electronic records/charts
- Valid NYS driver's license, driving record that is acceptable to BHSN's insurance carrier, and reliable transportation for required local travel
- CPR certification within 6 months of employment
- Must be able to physically move/react quickly, including climbing stairs, in response to situations on all interior floors of the residence and outside
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills aimed at providing excellent customer service to program clients as well as other agency staff
