Electronics Technician

Balance Technology, Inc. (BTI) is seeking a hands-on Electronics Technician to support engineering and R&D activities in our lab. This role focuses on assembling, inspecting, and performing basic test and troubleshooting of cables and electronic assemblies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and experienced with both through-hole and surface-mount electronic assemblies.

Required Skills & Experience

• Hands-on soldering experience
• Through-hole components
• Surface-mount components (0402/0603 preferred but flexible)
• Ability to read and understand electronic schematics
• Some cable assembly experience

Preferred (Not Required)

• IPC experience or certification (IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620 or J-STD-001)
• Experience working in an electronics lab environment
• Familiarity with basic troubleshooting techniques
• Experience with ESD-sensitive assemblies
• Low-volume or prototype manufacturing experience
• PC build/troubleshooting experience

Duties include:

Assembly & Rework

• Hand assemble electronic circuit boards and sub-assemblies using through-hole and SMT soldering
• Perform component installation, rework, and repair on populated PCBs
• Follow schematics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and written work instructions
• Maintain high workmanship standards for solder joints, lead dress, and board cleanliness

Inspection & Quality

• Visually inspect assemblies for solder defects, component orientation, and workmanship issues
• Identify and correct assembly errors prior to test
• Follow basic ESD handling and lab best practices

Test & Troubleshooting

• Perform basic electrical tests using:
• Digital multimeter
• Bench power supplies
• Oscilloscope (basic signal verification)
• Power up assemblies safely and verify expected voltages and signals
• Basic troubleshooting and repair of non-functional assemblies under engineer guidance
