Position Summary

The Biomedical Equipment Technology Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students enrolled in biomedical technology programs. Instruction focuses on the operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of medical and clinical equipment. This role includes classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory supervision, and may include delivery of instruction in an online or hybrid format.

The instructor plays a key role in preparing students for entry-level careers in biomedical equipment technology by emphasizing practical skills, safety, regulatory awareness, and industry best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver instruction in biomedical equipment technology topics, including medical device operation, installation, troubleshooting, repair, and applicable engineering principles.
  • Instruct students in scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) procedures across a range of biomedical and clinical equipment.
  • Guide students in performing operational, safety, and performance testing in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
  • Supervise laboratory activities and evaluate student performance on hands-on lab exercises and lab documentation.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with course learning objectives.
  • Maintain and update course content, laboratory procedures, and demonstrations to ensure alignment with current industry practices and technological advancements.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review activities to support continuous program improvement.
  • Employ effective instructional strategies that promote student engagement, learning, and professional readiness.
  • Proctor examinations and maintain accurate records of student performance and grades.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to discussions related to curriculum, assessment, and academic policies at the program and institutional levels.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a closely related field; Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hospital or clinical equipment.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) credential highly preferred.
  • Prior experience as an instructor, trainer, or technical mentor preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective presentation and public-speaking skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to students.
Nature of Work
  • Courses are offered in accelerated five-week terms.
  • Classes are typically scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings, beginning at 6:00 PM, on campus. Depending on instructional arrangement, an instructor may be scheduled to instruct two or four evenings per week.
  • Full-time and part-time opportunities available.
  • Candidates available to teach regularly across consecutive terms are preferred; however, qualified applicants who are available on a periodic or intermittent basis are encouraged to apply.
