Position Overview

The Haralson County Tax Assessors Office is seeking qualified applicants for a Property Appraiser Trainee, Appraiser I, or Appraiser II position. This role is primarily field-based and involves inspecting residential and other real property throughout Haralson County to collect and verify data used in determining fair and equitable property values for taxation purposes.

Appraisers spend a significant portion of the workday outdoors conducting property inspections, measuring and photographing improvements, verifying property characteristics, and documenting changes that affect value. Office work supports field inspections through data entry, research, valuation analysis, and appeal preparation.

Advancement occurs through experience, performance, and completion of required state certifications.

Pay Ranges by Level

Property Appraiser Trainee: $17.00 – $18.50 Hourly

Property Appraiser I: $18.00 – $22.00 Hourly

Property Appraiser II: $20.00 – $24.00 Hourly

Essential Functions

  • Conducts property appraisals by inspecting residential, real, and exempt properties and applying standardized valuation methods.

  • Collects and verifies property data including measurements, sketches, photographs, and physical characteristics.

  • Performs field inspections related to new construction, additions, renovations, and sales verification.

  • Compiles and audits appraisal and sales data for accuracy and consistency.

  • Prepares documentation and supporting data for property tax appeals.

  • Assists property owners, tax representatives, and the general public with appraisal methodology, valuation, and appeal-related questions.

Minimum Qualifications

Property Appraiser Trainee:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Prior experience in property appraisal, construction, real estate, surveying, or related fields is preferred but not required.

Property Appraiser I:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Prior experience in property appraisal and assessment is preferred.

Property Appraiser II:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in property appraisal and valuation, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Licenses and Certifications

  • All levels must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

  • Property Appraiser I: Must possess and maintain State Revenue Department Appraiser I certification.

  • Property Appraiser II: Must possess and maintain State Revenue Department Appraiser II certification.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Work is performed year-round in outdoor environments and may involve walking uneven terrain and exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, humidity, dust, pollen, and wildlife. Duties require light to moderate physical activity, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or carrying items weighing approximately 12–20 pounds.
