Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Optometrist Scribe to support our optometrist during patient examinations. The scribe will document clinical encounters in real time, assist with patient flow, and help ensure accurate and efficient medical records. This role allows the optometrist to focus on patient care while improving clinic efficiency and patient experience.
Duties
- Document patient encounters accurately and in real time during eye exams
- Record patient history, symptoms, examination findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans in the EHR
- Assist the optometrist by preparing charts and updating patient records
- Ensure all documentation complies with medical, legal, and privacy standards (HIPAA)
- Help manage patient flow and support clinic efficiency
- Communicate clearly with the optometrist and clinical team
- Perform additional administrative or clinical support tasks as needed
Skills
- Excellent communication skills to connect effectively with diverse patients
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure privacy and security of patient information
- Familiarity with optical equipment, ophthalmology procedures, and anatomy relevant to eye care
- Understanding of medical terminology, physiology, medical coding, billing practices, and pediatrics when applicable
- Clinic experience preferred; prior retail sales or customer service background is a plus for engaging patients confidently
- If Spanish-speaking, we will up the pay rate by $1
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience as a medical scribe, optometry assistant, or healthcare support role (preferred)
- Familiarity with medical terminology; optometry terminology is a plus
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Strong typing and computer skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Professional demeanor and strong communication skills
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to work closely with providers during patient examinations
