POSITION SUMMARY
Supervises and provides leadership for inpatient staff. Assists in the education and evaluation of inpatient staff. Acts as the Inpatient Unit Director in his/her absence. As a member of the treatment team, assists in planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of quality and age-appropriate care on the ICC. This includes the preparation of nursing care plans and provision of care to clients on the ICC.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotes cost containment related to client supplies, budget resources and personnel. Purchases appropriate supplies when needed and/or oversees purchases made by designee.
Responsible for administrative and/or management functions for the Inpatient Care Center (i.e. acuity and census monitoring, evaluation and monitoring of incident reports, etc.).
Participates in relevant committees to assist in agency-wide projects. Takes initiative to help solve agency-wide issues.
Researches, develops and implements improvements to policies and procedures in accordance with guidelines provided by CMS, CARF, DMHA and the CDC.
Completes necessary paperwork accurately and efficiently in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
CLIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES
Meets all expectations provided under the Registered Nurse position description.
Oversees the provision of care for all clients on the Inpatient Care Center. Evaluates and improves treatment plans and nursing care plans.
Participates in treatment team meetings.
Coordinates the activities of the ICC, including interactions with outside agencies and/or staff members from other departments within PSS.
Evaluates the results of client care.
Assists in problem-solving and addressing client complaints.
Initiates and oversees the development/implementation of recovery-based and trauma-informed care for clients on the ICC and monitors the quality of such programs in accordance with agency goals and objectives and external regulatory agencies' standards.
Monitors and evaluates program systems and processes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
STAFF SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the provision of leadership, supervision and communication that supports the departmental and organizational mission, and is in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Provides effective regular supervision to Charge Nurses, Staff Nurses, LPNs and other support employees including Psychiatric Technicians.
Acquires and maintains adequate levels of qualified staff to meet the needs of programs and services.
Identifies, recruits, interviews and hires employees as directed and needed.
Plans, assigns and directs work.
Prepares schedules to ensure adequate coverage is available on each shift.
Serves as acting Director for the ICC in that person's absence.
Appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, addresses complaints and resolves problems in a timely manner.
Initiates employee disciplinary proceeding when needed with the approval of the Director of Acute Intensive Services. Carries out reprimands and terminations in consultation with the Director of Acute Intensive Services.
Provides overall training to all program staff, as well as Porter-Starke Services staff, as requested. Training includes agency policies and procedures, infection control, special procedures and any other necessary topics. Monitors compliance of staff with policy and procedure and trainings.
Works positively toward maintaining the motivation and morale of staff.
Fosters an environment where staff will advance to further levels of competency.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of three years' experience required.
- Mental heath and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION
- Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse is required.
