Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician Intern will support the Maintenance and Engineering teams by assisting with preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, inventory management, and facility support activities. This role provides hands-on experience in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems, while emphasizing safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Interns are eligible for full-time hire upon successful completion of the internship and satisfactory job performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Support
- Assist maintenance technicians with preventive and corrective maintenance on production equipment, conveyors, tooling, and facility systems
- Support equipment inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and basic repairs under supervision
- Document maintenance activities and update maintenance logs, checklists, and records
Troubleshooting & Reliability
- Observe and assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues
- Support root cause analysis for equipment downtime and recurring failures
- Escalate safety concerns or equipment risks to maintenance leadership
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and PPE requirements
- Participate in safety training, audits, and risk assessments
- Promote and model safe work practices at all times
Continuous Improvement
- Assist with maintenance-related improvement projects to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability
- Participate in 5S and workplace organization activities
- Support implementation of standard work and preventive maintenance improvements
Facility Support
- Assist with basic facility maintenance tasks (lighting, minor repairs, inspections)
- Support coordination with external contractors under supervision
QualificationsEducation
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a technical program or degree in:
- Industrial Maintenance
- Mechatronics
- Electrical Technology
- Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Or a related field
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
- Strong willingness to learn industrial maintenance practices
- Ability to read basic diagrams, schematics, or manuals (preferred)
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Basic inventory tracking and Excel skills required
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and facility environment
- Exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
- PPE required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation

FTBC specializes in manufacturing prismatic aluminum cell cases and cell covers for lithium-ion batteries used in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (HEVs and BEVs).
