Job Overview:
The Surgical Technologist will play a vital role in supporting our plastic surgeons and clinical team during surgeries and medical procedures. This role will include responsibilities both in the operating room and in the clinic setting. The ideal candidate will assist in pre-operative and post-operative care, chaperone doctors during patient consultations, and help maintain a smooth, efficient workflow in the clinic and surgery areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the Operating Room: Ensure all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterilized and ready for use.
- Assist Surgeons in Surgery: Work directly with surgeons and medical staff during surgeries by passing instruments, handling specimens, and maintaining sterile conditions.
- Chaperone Doctors: Provide support by chaperoning doctors during patient consultations, ensuring that the patient feels comfortable, and assisting in patient education and any necessary documentation.
- Patient Preparation in the Clinic: Assist with patient positioning, preparing patients for exams and procedures, and ensure comfort and safety throughout pre-operative evaluations.
- Pre-Operative Care: Educate patients on pre-surgery instructions, assist with obtaining patient histories, and prepare them mentally and physically for surgery.
- Post-Operative Care: Assist in post-operative procedures, including bandaging, monitoring recovery progress, patient education, and providing follow-up care instructions.
- Monitor Sterility: Maintain sterile technique throughout the surgical procedure, ensuring no contaminants enter the surgical field.
- Document Procedures: Accurately record surgical counts, patient information, and other necessary documentation during surgical and clinical settings.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain surgical equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
- Collaboration: Communicate effectively with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and clinic team, to provide optimal patient care.
- Ensure Compliance: Adhere to all infection control protocols, OSHA regulations, and practice-specific policies and procedures in surgical and clinic settings.
Qualifications:
- Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in a clinical or hospital setting. Experience in plastic surgery or specialty surgical settings is preferred.
- Skills: Strong understanding of sterile techniques, surgical procedures, and medical instruments. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with precision and attention to detail.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well within a team and interact with patients in both clinical and surgical settings.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift and carry heavy instruments, and assist in patient positioning during procedures.
