Micro Trench Equipment Operator

The Micro Trench Equipment Operator is responsible for operating specialized micro-trenching and support equipment to install underground utilities, primarily fiber optic conduit. This position requires precision, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work efficiently in public rights-of-way and active construction environments.

• Operate microtrenching machines, saws, skid steers, and related equipment
• Cut narrow, precise trenches according to project specifications and plans
• Install conduit or duct and prepare trenches for backfill and restoration
• Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and basic repairs
• Read and interpret utility locates, drawings, and job plans
• Work closely with laborers, supervisors, and inspectors to complete projects on schedule
• Maintain job site safety, including proper barricades and traffic control
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, local codes, and company policies
• Keep accurate job logs, equipment reports, and production records

• Experience operating construction or utility equipment (micro trench experience preferred)
• Valid driver's license; CDL a plus
• Knowledge of underground utility construction and safety practices
• Ability to read utility locates and construction drawings
• Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

• Fiber optic or telecommunications construction experience
• Experience working in urban or municipal rightofway environments
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification
• Traffic control or flagging certification

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs
• Ability to climb on/off equipment and work around moving machinery
• Prolonged standing, walking, and operating controls

• Outdoor construction sites in residential and commercial areas
• Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and heavy equipment
• Travel between job sites may be required
