Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Administrative Legal Assistant specializing in EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review) matters. This role provides essential support within a dynamic law office environment, assisting attorneys with case management, legal research, document preparation, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, legal administrative experience, and familiarity with various areas of law including immigration, family, estate planning, and litigation. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful legal work while developing a broad understanding of multiple legal disciplines.
Duties:
- Reviews case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration;
- Searches for and summarizes relevant articles in trade magazines, law reviews, published studies, financial reports, and similar materials for use of attorneys in the preparation of opinions, briefs, and other legal documents;
- Prepares digests of selected decisions or opinions which incorporate legal references and analyses of precedents involved in areas of well-defined and settled points of law;
- Interviews potential witnesses and prepares summary interview reports for the attorney's review;
- Participates in pre-trial witness conferences, notes possible deficiencies in case materials (e.g., missing documents, conflicting statements) and additional issues or other questionable matters, and requests further investigation by other agency personnel to correct possible deficiencies or personally conducts limited investigations at the pre-trial stage;
- Prepares and organizes trial exhibits, as required, such as statistical charts and photographic exhibits;
- Verifies citations and legal references on prepared legal documents;
- Prepares summaries of testimony and depositions;
- Communicates both orally and in writing to both internal and external clientele;
- Ensures a quality review of work received to ensure its compliance with established guidelines, policies and procedures;
- Supervises a production staff; and
- Drafts and edits non-legal memoranda, research reports; and correspondence relating to cases;
- Analyses and identifies information in records that need to be redacted and performs the redactions or instructs sub-ordinates in the redaction of the information from the records.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be punctual and reliable;
- Ability to effectively perform routine, daily tasks;
- High attention to detail;
- Ability to communicate effectively in both orally and in writing;
- Ability to conduct training;
- Ability to work effectively under strict time constraints and/or deadlines;
- High school diploma and certificate in paralegal course;
- U.S. Citizenship required;
- Ability to review and identify complex PII or other information that needs to be redacted as required by current FOIA regulations;
- Ability to successfully complete an extensive Government background check;
- Comply with all confidentiality requirements and Government computer security requirements;
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
