What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-level engineering assurance across our cutting-edge BAE Systems Maritime Submarines products. Your expertise will ensure the integrity of major Submarine Enterprise programmes. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Deliver engineering assurance, ensuring safety and compliance across our innovative submarine products.
  • Plan and prioritize assurance activities using a risk-based approach, optimizing resources while adhering to the Submarines Engineering Product Assurance Framework.
  • Lead and support key assurance reviews, validating design decisions and technical bids with your SQEP expertise.
  • Ensure products are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and fully integrated, with hazards demonstrated ALARP.
  • Provide independent oversight to design and technical reviews, offering objective judgment aligned with engineering frameworks.
  • Collaborate across engineering and business teams, influencing outcomes and shaping product quality.
  • Act as an independent voice in safety assurance, providing impartial technical support and challenging designs with a fresh perspective.
Your Skills and Experiences:

We’re looking for someone with a strong background in mechanical engineering. Here’s what you should bring to the table:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, but strong experience in design or commissioning will also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with event reporting systems, confidently identifying issues and driving effective resolutions.
  • Proven capability in design proving, successfully taking projects through verification and validation.
  • Strong knowledge of design reviews, audits, change management, and resolving complex technical challenges.
  • A solid mechanical engineering background with practical experience in design, testing, and commissioning activities.

The Product Assurance Team:

In this role, you will be at the heart of some of the UK’s most advanced engineering challenges. You’ll shape key elements of the assurance schedule and gain hands-on insight into audits, inspections, reviews, tests, and trials. Your work will be varied and engaging, producing clear technical briefings and supporting issue investigations. You’ll also act as a trusted source of specialist technical advice, directly contributing to the safety and assurance of world-class submarine technologies. Relocation support is available for eligible candidates.
