Join Our Team as a Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering (C & I)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Hybrid (2 days onsite per fortnight, depending on business needs)

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Engineer in our Marine Systems Control and Instrumentation Team, you will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge C&I designs for submarine platforms. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating functional designs for C&I solutions based on Piping & Instrumentation diagrams.
  • Producing Bills of Materials for C&I equipment.
  • Specifying instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, and level analysis tailored to specific process conditions.
  • Designing C&I systems that meet a variety of standards, including safety, defence, and nuclear regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance with non-functional requirements (e.g., EMC, Shock, Metallics).
  • Generating verification evidence to demonstrate design compliance.
  • Producing essential design documents such as I/O schedules, instrument specifications, and functional design specifications.
  • Implementing physical system-to-system interface designs.
  • Leading technical design reviews and articulating technical arguments clearly.
  • Conducting peer reviews and managing system design maturity to meet program demands.
  • Liaising with internal and external customers as part of a collaborative technical team.
Your Skills and Experiences

We’re looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications and experiences:

  • BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent.
  • Working towards professional registration.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of defence standards is a plus.
  • Experience in system calculations, modelling, and analysis.
  • Understanding of at least one of the following areas:
    • Legacy submarine design programs.
    • High, medium, and low voltage systems.
    • Control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
    • Completion and verification of designs in accordance with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety.
    • Multi-disciplinary engineering understanding (Mechanical, Process, Instrument, Electrical, Control, Safety).
    • Specifying equipment for Hazardous Areas and producing verification evidence.
    • Contributing to the production and improvement of process instructions.

About the Marine Systems Control and Instrumentation Team

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the SSNA program and the next generation of submarine design. You will support Principal Engineers and external specialists in the development, analysis, integration, and verification of platform control and instrumentation systems. Your leadership in analysis and technical reporting will be crucial in managing operator control console designs to meet defined criteria and program demands.
