Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Assistant Attorney General role located in Pierre, SD. The Assistant Attorney General will be responsible for legal research, providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and representing the state in litigation. Additional responsibilities include appearing in court, advising state agencies and law enforcement, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws while driving positive legal and social outcomes.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in legal research, case preparation, and litigation strategies
• Strong ethical judgment, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively
• Expertise in legal drafting, reviewing legal documents, and providing reliable legal opinions
• Experience in courtroom representation and oral advocacy
• Knowledge of South Dakota state laws, regulations, and legal procedures
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active licensure to practice law in South Dakota
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders, and public officials effectively
• Commitment to public service, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic
