About the Centennial

In 2026, United Way of Rhode Island marks its 100th year of service to communities across the state. Our Centennial Celebration is both a moment of reflection and a forward-looking effort to deepen our connection with Rhode Islanders, tell our story, and invite people to be part of what comes next.

The Centennial strategy is anchored in three connected efforts:

  • United Across Rhode Island, a statewide tour bringing United Way into communities, workplaces, and public spaces across all 39 cities and towns
  • A year-long storytelling and engagement effort that centers community voice
  • A Grand Centennial Celebration, culminating in a large-scale, public-facing event on October 17, 2026

We are seeking a temporary, hourly contractor to help activate this strategy, with primary responsibility for leading the United Across Rhode Island tour and supporting the execution of the Grand Centennial Celebration.

About the Role

The Centennial Project Coordinator will play a highly visible, externally focused role in bringing the Centennial to life across Rhode Island. This position serves as the lead coordinator for the United Across Rhode Island tour, while working closely with United Way's Outreach team to engage staff and volunteers in community events whenever possible.

The role also provides hands-on support for the Grand Centennial Celebration, partnering closely with United Way's in-house Events Manager to help elevate and execute this signature moment.

This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being out in the community, is highly organized, and is comfortable managing logistics, relationships, and follow-through across multiple workstreams.

The position reports to the Director of Strategy & Analytics and collaborates closely with Outreach, Events, Communications, and Development colleagues.

  • Track follow-ups, contacts, and next steps to ensure consistency and momentum

Grand Centennial Celebration (Support Role)

  • Support the planning and execution of the Grand Centennial Celebration
  • Work in close partnership with the in-house Events Manager to support logistics, timelines, and vendor coordination
  • Assist with run-of-show materials, internal coordination, and on-site support as needed

Project Coordination & Execution

  • Maintain project trackers, timelines, and task lists across Centennial activities
  • Coordinate across internal teams to ensure alignment and follow-through
  • Support engagement of volunteers, ambassadors, and committees connected to Centennial efforts
  • Help ensure Centennial work is organized, well-documented, and moving forward

What We're Looking For

  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with attention to detail
  • Comfort working independently while staying aligned with a defined strategy and priorities

  • Experience or interest in community engagement, outreach, events, or project coordination
  • Willingness to be present in the community regularly, including occasional evenings or weekends
  • Familiarity with nonprofit, civic, or community-based work is helpful, but not required
  • A genuine interest in community connection and making public-facing work feel welcoming and well-run

No specific degree is required. This is an hourly role, and we are focused on finding someone whose skills, availability, and interests align with the scope and pace of the work.
