Forklift Exchange, Inc is a family-owned company for over 40 years.
Forklift Exchange operates out of 2 locations: Bedford Park, IL, and Fort Myers, FL. The company's expertise in the wholesale of material handling equipment and high-capacity forklifts spans across a wide array of lines, including Hoist, Toyota, Kalmar, Taylor and more.
Our 140,000sqft Bedford Park facility is located in an industrial crane served building (up to 100 ton) on nine acres. Our service jobs range from a minor cylinder repair to a complete machine refurbishment. By having a rental fleet in-shop, we are able to provide our customers needing extensive repairs with loaner trucks. We pride ourselves on having fully-trained technicians on hand 24/7, turning jobs around within 15 days or less. Additionally, we offer remote service throughout the U.S. specifically Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble and install sub-assemblies for high-capacity forklifts (masts, carriages, cabs, axles, hydraulic components, etc.).
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, build sheets, and work instructions.
- Fit, align, and secure components using appropriate tools, fasteners, and torque specifications.
- Route and connect hydraulic hoses, lines, wiring, and other connections as required.
- Inspect components and assemblies for proper fit, function, and quality before final installation.
- Collaborate with lead technicians and shop supervisors to ensure builds stay on schedule.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of prior experience as a mechanic or assembler working with heavy equipment, high-capacity forklifts, material handling equipment, construction equipment, or similar machinery.
- High school or equivalent.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how components fit and work together in a machine.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and torque tools for precise assembly work.
- Basic understanding of hydraulics and mechanical systems.
- Attention to detail and pride in building equipment correctly the first time.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work well as part of a team in a shop environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and stay on task.
- Driver's license required.
- Possess personal hand tools.
- Willingness to stand, bend, lift heavy components, and perform repetitive tasks as needed.
