Position Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated, academically inclined Bengali-speaking researcher to join an NIH R01–funded project administered through UMass Chan Medical School. While the academic appointment is through UMass Chan Medical School, the day-to-day work for this position will be based in New York City.

This full-time position is open to Graduate students, PhD students, or Postdoctoral Fellows. The project focuses on depression and the role of poverty among the ultra poor in rural Bangladesh. It's an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in data collection, qualitative interviewing, data management, and quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis within a rigorous academic research environment.

The study is being implemented in Bangladesh, and international travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and/or supervise data collection, including field-based activities
  • Perform data cleaning, management, and statistical or qualitative data analysis
  • Assist with IRB submissions, study protocols, and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams in the U.S. and Bangladesh
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and grant-related outputs
  • Participate in regular project meetings and scholarly discussions

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in spoken Bengali (written a plus)
  • Bachelor's degree (for Graduate Research Assistant), enrollment in or completion of a graduate program (for PhD student), or completed PhD (for Postdoctoral Fellow) in a relevant field
  • Strong interest in academic research and data analysis
  • Experience or training in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on NIH-funded or large-scale research projects
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, SAS) or qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo)
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term academic or research career

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55, $75,000.00 per year
