We're hiring skilled and passionate Recreation Leaders to help and support running Day Camp, Overnight Camping, and Teen Outdoor Programs. We're seeking individuals who have experience working with youth, teens, and family in an outdoor setting. These are seasonal positions, paid by the hour with no benefits. Work hours are flexible and a variety of weekday and weekend shifts are available. The work season is May through mid-October. Overtime and holiday pay are available. Hourly Pay Rates:
Recreation Aide: $ $20.57
Recreation Leader I - $ $22.63
Recreation Leader II - $ $26.03
Senior Recreation Leader - $ $32.54

General Staff Training: May 2026

First Aid/CPR Training (required for all Recreation Leader positions): Candidates can attend the Park District's training tentatively set for June 1, 2026. Alternatively, applicants can also provide proof of training completion within 30 days of employment.

Essential Functions

Recreation Aide
Under direct supervision, assists in a variety of outdoor recreational activities and assignments in support of day camps, overnight camping trips, afterschool programs, special events, and other Park District programs. Provides input for record keeping and performs other work as required. Recreation Aide is the entry level trainee class of this series, focusing on assisting other Recreation Leaders in the instruction and implementation of outdoor recreational programs.

Recreation Leader I
Under direct supervision, leads and participates in a variety of outdoor recreational activities and assignments in support of day camps, overnight camping trips, afterschool programs, special events, and other Park District programs; and performs record keeping and other work as required. Recreation Leader I is the entry level class of this series and is focused on learning the principals of leading recreation programs, performing all duties of a Recreation Aide while providing direction to Leaders-in-Training, and may transport program participants and staff.

Recreation Leader II
Under direct supervision, leads and participates in a variety of outdoor recreational activities and assignments in support of day camps, overnight camping trips, afterschool programs, special events, and other Park District programs; and performs record keeping and other work as required. Recreation Leader II is the journey level class of this series and is a lead position performing all duties of Recreation Leader I, while providing lead direction to Recreation staff members and leading program activities, and may transport program participants and staff.

Senior Recreation Leader
Under general supervision, serves as program lead for a variety of outdoor recreational activities and assignments in support of day camps, overnight camping trips, afterschool programs, special events, and other Park District programs; performs the support tasks necessary to organize and deliver recreation programs; and performs record keeping and other work as required. Senior Recreation Leader is the advanced journey level position in this series, with principle duties as the program lead and overall responsibility of recreation program participants and seasonal staff. Positions in this classification are responsible for program planning, leading, and oversight of all activities, and may transport program participants and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Recreation Aide:

Education: Must be 15 and 1/2 years of age or older, and must be in attendance at, or on legitimate leave from, a high school, trade school, or college or university. Bilingual or multi-lingual skills are preferred.

Recreation Leader I:In addition to the above:

Experience: Must have completed at least one (1) season of recent experience comparable to a Recreation Aide with East Bay Regional Park District.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License as a condition of initial and continued employment; Must obtain Basic First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of initial job offer.

Recreation Leader II:In addition to the above:

Experience: Must have completed at least one (1) season of recent experience comparable to a Recreation Leader I with East Bay Regional Park District.

Senior Recreation Leader: In addition to the above:

Education: Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of appointment. Some college is preferred.

Experience: Must have completed at least two (2) seasons of recent experience comparable to a Recreation Leader II with East Bay Regional Park District.

Additional Information

Conditions of Employment (applicable to all levels):

  • Must pass a Level 1 background screening which includes DOJ fingerprinting and criminal history review and subject to tuberculosis (TB) clearance.
  • Required to wear a Park District uniform.
  • May be required to work unusual hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, twist, bend, reach above and below shoulders, lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and depending upon assignment, may be required to swim, ride a bike, hike, kayak, canoe, or perform other applicable physical duties.
  • This position is designated as a Mandated Reporter under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). Mandated reporters are individuals who are obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. As such, you will be required to sign an acknowledgment of having received the District's policy and your responsibilities.
