Mental Health Intern

Kenneth Young Center offers several different clinical opportunities and is now accepting applications for Spring 2026 (Jan2026-May 2026), and Summer 2026 (May 2026-August / September We are proud to offer a scholarship to our student interns. We are seeking interns for the following programs: Adult Outpatient, Child & Adolescent Outpatient, SASS/Mobile Crisis Response, Behavioral Health Recovery. Only one application is needed to be considered for all programs. Each program requires a minimum of twenty hours per week. Job Scope: Join a diverse team of counselors and social workers providing mental health services in a collaborative and welcoming community outpatient setting. Engage clients in therapeutic and case management services aimed at increasing supporting clients in creating a life worth living, stabilizing and improving mental health symptoms, and functioning independently in the community. Behavioral Health Interns are required to intern a minimum of twenty hours per week; however, school programs may vary with this requirement.

Internship Description:

  • Interns will be placed within a mental health program serving adults. Activities are geared towards Master's level, 1st year or practicum.
  • Responsibilities may include:
  • Outreach to adults recently discharged from hospital or emergency room to support their transition-home needs (psychiatric and medical), build rapport, provide support, connect to resources, and engage in care.
  • Completing intake sessions with new clients.
  • Observing initial mental health assessments and participate in re-assessments.
  • Completing documentation regarding service activities and client contacts.
  • Meeting with clients in community settings or supported housing environments.

  • Exposure to inpatient and outpatient services
  • gain familiarity with client population of adults with mental health and co-morbid conditions
  • Exposure to variety of settings for counselors and social workers
  • Learn to coordinate and work with multi-disciplinary team

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University in Psychology, Social Work, or closely related discipline required.
  • Must be in an accredited graduate program and in a Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling program, or closely related discipline
  • Must have basic computer and keyboarding skills.

Schedule

  • Schedule will vary depending on program needs and interns' schedules, with two days being prime time (evenings and/or evening and a Saturday)
  • Must intern a minimum of 20 hours per week, however, some school programs might have a higher requirement
