What You’ll Be Doing:As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and analysis of complex steel structures. Your expertise will directly support submarine builds through:
- Design and Analysis: Utilize Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to conduct FEA and classical calculation analysis.
- Regulatory Expertise: Apply your knowledge of regulations that extend beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, Codes of Compliance, Weld Specifications, and Geometric Tolerance.
- Data Interpretation: Use computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis, CAD modeling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame).
- Support Manufacturing Processes: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation of Submarine Structures.
- Technical Outputs: Produce concept drawings, layouts, and other technical documents that meet contractual requirements, target dates, and budget demands.
- Quality Assurance: Check and approve calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Essential:
- BEng/MEng in Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or nearing CEng status.
- Expertise in structural steel analysis and design.
- Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
- Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, lifting handling, and LOLER.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with ABAQUS, S-Frame, NX, MathCAD, and Excel.
- Previous experience in a production or marine production environment.

The Production Engineering Department Team:As part of our rapidly growing team, you will collaborate with both designers and engineers on exciting new programs. Your role will involve conducting engineering assessments to support the build process, working closely with the design team to develop equipment, and providing operational and production support for safety-critical systems. Relocation support is available for all Submarine roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
