Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Engineer steel structures in compliance with applicable building codes
Engineer steel structures to meet customer specifications and Porter Corp design standards
Review work of less experienced engineers and provide constructive feedback
Conceptualize and engineer steel structures using RISA-3D and other CADD software
Create calculations reflecting the structural requirements for a given project
Review submittal and fabrication drawings to ensure consistency with calculations
Maintain internal project scheduling and coordinate with drafting and production capacities
Leverage engineering knowledge and internal tools to develop multiple levels of pricing
Research and communicate project-specific technical solutions
Communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences
Participate in a team environment of open and active engagement
General familiarity with the company's facilities, processes, policies, and products
Share in a company-wide philosophy of continuous improvement
Accountable for all engineering aspects of projects they sign and seal
Mentor E.I.T.'s in the department
Complete the majority of daily responsibilities with little guidance from superiors
Lead minor departmental strategic initiatives
Perform other related duties as required
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
4 years (minimum) experience in structural engineering
E. license
Travel
This position requires minimal to no travel
Computer Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access
- Demonstrated proficiency using EPICOR ERP or similar systems
Other Requirements
Familiarity with structural analysis software is preferred
Demonstrated ability in MS Office, with excellent written and communication skills
Knowledge of engineering principles and product development techniques and processes
Originality and judgement in the independent evaluation of new applications and products
Familiarity with major building codes in the United States and their applications
