The City of Hillsboro's Facilities Operations and Maintenance division of Public Works has an exciting opportunity for a journey level Plumber. Successful candidates will be able to perform work related to installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems including but not limited to, fresh water, irrigation, backflow, and Drain-Waste-Vent (DWV). In addition to using your technical plumbing expertise, you will also have the opportunity to assist with other maintenance duties to support the Facilities Maintenance team.

  • Locate and repair inground leaks at our facilities.

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Plumber addresses all plumbing-related issues and maintenance, including the design, installation and maintenance of plumbing and related equipment and tools in all facilities. Incumbents perform journey-level plumbing work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND TASKS:

The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Designs, installs, maintains, and repairs pipes, fittings, fixtures, and other plumbing solutions as needed in city facilities in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Plans and organizes assigned jobs; estimates time, materials, and equipment; orders and purchases materials; coordinates job activities with other crafts and trades personnel; reviews plans and specifications, and confers with engineers, design professionals and inspectors on suggested changes and modifications.
  • Prepares and/or tracks various activity reports, documents, invoices, estimates and work orders. Reviews documents for accuracy and completion.
  • Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Monitors inventory levels, research supply requirements, ensures adequate resources, and initiates the ordering of supplies to maintain inventory.
  • Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system to track and manage work orders
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate people to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
  • Manages records and information in any format, in accordance with applicable statutes, regulations and city policy, guidance and records retention schedule.
  • Conducts all backflow and fire hydrant tests for all city facilities.
  • Performs related Facilities Maintenance duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate degree in plumbing or related field; and four to five years of experience as a Journeyman Plumber with plumbing experience and some supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSE(S) / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid, current Driver's License and safe driving record
  • Oregon Journeyman Plumber License
  • First aid and CPR certification
  • Confined space certification
  • Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position works both indoors and outdoors in the field, exposed to the weather
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position - this position/classification impacts safety of the employee and the safety of others as a result of performing that job
  • Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodation. Performs work at various and sometimes extreme heights using an aerial bucket truck/lift
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of workday), and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of workday), and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly (2/3 or more of workday) to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work
  • Position may require work be performed during extended shifts, nighttime operations, and weekends. This position will require on-call rotation of the emergency/afterhours response system

City of Hillsboro Bilingual Service Incentive
