Athletic Trainer

Under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer will provide athletic health care for McMurry University student athletes. This is a full-time, 10-month position.

Job Duties:

Major/Essential Duties of the Job:

• Assist in daily operations of the sports medicine facility and all aspects associated with administering and providing services and coverage for McMurry University intercollegiate athletic teams.
• Provide injury care, prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation for McMurry University scholar-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics.
• Communicate with scholar-athletes, medical personnel, athletic staff and administrators in the development and coordination of efficient and responsive athletic health care.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Head AT or Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
• Additional responsibilities include athletic training administrative duties, education, counseling and education of scholar-athletes.
• Education and recruitment of student athletic trainers.
• Supervise, instruct and evaluate the work of student athletic trainers. Perform other tasks of a similar nature or level as assigned.
• Complete insurance report forms on accidents and injuries and verify claim information. May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include the recruitment and retention of students.
• Referral of sports injuries to external medical facilities and injury record keeping.
• Travel and irregular work hours required. Working beyond normal 40-hour week is possible during seasonal activities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Required Qualifications

Required Education/Experience:
Master's degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or related field is preferred and a minimum of two years' experience. Licensure by State of Texas and/or certification in Athletic Training from the National Athletic Training Association Board of Certification. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be current in CPR/AED and first aid qualified.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift in excess of 100 lbs. and stand for an extensive amount of time per day, must be able to deal with heat and changing weather precautions.

Requires frequent lifting, bending, stooping, or standing.
